Periodontology has a rich background of research and scholarship. Therefore efficient use of this wealth of research data needs to be a part of periodontal practice. As clinicians, we must be able to recognize the different levels of evidence because they allow us to assess the value of the information provided. The evidence-based approach helps to ensure that efficacious treatments are used in practice. This approach does not ignore the patient and concentrate solely on numbers and statistics. To contrary, the evidence based approach recognizes the importance of patient preference and quality of life.
Evidence base Periodontology aims to facilitate such an approach, accelerating the introduction of the best research into patient care. The purpose of this article is to describe the evidence based approach in diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases. |
