THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF AN ORGANIZATION ARE THE RESULTS OF COMBINED EFFORTS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL

Greetings to One and All,

Dental public health field has been expanding in scope providing leadership and expertise in population-based dentistry, oral health surveillance, policy development, community-based disease prevention and health promotion, and the maintenance of the dental safety net. We public health dentists can certainly contribute to improve the oral health of the public by innovation in education, training, research, advocacy, and related programs which translate into a commitment for dental excellence. Since the growth comes only through the continuous effort and change, population strategies need to be implemented, to reverse the negative trends prevailing today and to help people lead a healthy life with a healthy smile.

My best wishes to the Organizing Committee of the forthcoming National PG Convention (8–10th July at Virajpet, Coorg) and the Conference (17–19th November at Bhubaneswar) of IAPHD, 2016, for a meaningful and learning experience event in every aspect. I, on behalf of Head Office, thank them for their positive attitude to reconsider the budget to make it more affordable, especially for the postgraduates and encourage their participation.

At present, Head Office is working to facelift the IAPHD website, a National level teachers' training program and planning for a multicentric clinical trial on “IAPHD recommended dentifrice” for which our beloved President Emeritus Dr. R. K. Bali sir contributed a financial assistance of Rs. 60,000/- to the Head Office account. On the other hand, we are sending our representation to MoHFW to include Public Health Dentistry professionals in the NOHP and involve IAPHD wherever possible. Dr. Utkal Mohanty, our own member, is pursuing the matter.

Dental Council of India is proposing to increase the number of senior lecturers in each unit of PG curriculum in the coming MDS regulation which I think will give all our youngsters a boost. Scenario regarding scarcity of jobs for senior lecturers in the dental colleges is improving even in the states such as Maharashtra and Kerala. Still Punjab is an area of concern.

With this, wishing all of you a great time ahead. Feel free to contact Head Office. Please do good things which will bring name and fame for the subject, association and above all for yourself. Observe “No Tobacco Day” and “IAPHD day” in your institutions. Our third EC Meeting will be held at Coorg during PG Convention. See you all at Coorg and best of luck to MDS exam going batch across the country, our future colleagues.

Long live IAPHD. Jai Hind.
