  Capacity Building for Undertaking Systematic Review in Dentistry Top

Library dissertation (LD) for a dental postgraduate student means writing a review on a selected topic. However, with the changing times, universities are now adopting the concept of undertaking Systematic review and Meta-analysis as library dissertation. However, the challenge here is that limited dental faculty have the skill and training to undertake Systematic Review (SR) and further guide the postgraduate students. The following colleges have taken initiative and are training their faculty and postgraduate students. The module used for training in Non-Cochrane review is available at (http://www.jdrr.org/article.asp?issn=2348-2915;year=2019;volume=6;issue=1;spage=1;epage=2;aulast=Kakodkar). The training includes 5 lectures, hands-on for literature search and group activity and presentation for Protocol Writing.

1. Center: Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Dental College, Pune.

Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Dental College conducted a 2 day Systematic Review training workshop on 12th and 13th February 2019 for the PhD scholars and faculty of the college. 20 participants were benefitted from the workshop. Dr Rajesh Kshirsagar Principal of the college delivered the welcome speech and inaugurated the program.

2. Center: Terna Dental College, Mumbai.

Terna Dental College conducted a 2 day Systematic Review training workshop on 24th and 25th July 2019 for the 1st and 2nd year postgraduate students of the college. 30 PG students participated in the program. Dr Shishir Sigh, Dean of the college inaugurated the program.

3. Center: Shri Vasantdada Patil Dental College, Sangali.

Dr Priya Joshi, Principal of Shri Vasantdada Patil Dental College took initiative to undertake a 2 day Systematic Review training workshop on 1st and 2nd August, 2019 for the first MDS students and faculty of the college.50 participants were benefitted from the workshop.

  World No Tobacco Day - 2019 Top


Centre - Dr. D.Y Patil Dental College, Pimpri, Pune



Dept of Public Health Dentistry, Dr.D.Y Patil Dental College, Pimpri, Pune under its crusade towards Anti Tobacco Campaign organized various events at different locations of Pune City and its surroundings. Alandi Health Center Camp was organized on 22/5/2019 for general population and were educated towards ill effects of tobacco. 29 patients were checked for oral problems and 23 were provided preventive treatment, scaling, and tobacco cessation counselling. A dental check camp was organized for the factory workers at Exide Battery Limited on 23/5/19 all the workers were provided with tobacco counselling. Restoration and scaling of teeth was done for 47 workers and free oral examination was provided to 58 workers. Kamsheth Govt Hospital Camp was organized on 25/5/2019 for the people visiting the hospital and were informed regarding tobacco cessation counselling available at the dental clinic. The ASHA workers were educated towards the ill effects of tobacco and behavioral tobacco cessation counselling was taught to them by using As and Rs in Marathi. The same will be spread to the community by the workers. Check–up of 28 patients and treatment of 21 patients was accomplished. Yerawada Central Jail: On 31st May 2019 Yerawada Jail Radio had invited Department Of Public Health Dentistry to provide a detailed air show regarding the ill effects of tobacco and it's Cessation Programme which was live though out the premises of Yerawada Jail and benefitted more than 5000 inmates. The authorities have requested to continue tobacco Cessation activities inside the premises for the inmates. A health education session was also arranged for more than 100 under trial inmates. 39 inmates were checked and 19 were provided treatment like extraction and restoration of teeth, scaling through the mobile dental clinic. In the college, on World No Tobacco Day a skit was performed for the patients at Oral Medicine OPD, interns educated the people about ill-effects of tobacco use and benefits of quitting.
