 A Report On 8th National Iaphd Pg Convention-5th & 6th July 2014



The Department of Public Health Dentistry, ITS Dental College & Hospital Research Centre, Greater Noida organized the 8 th National IAPHD Convention on 5 th & 6 th July 2014 in its own sprawling campus. Theme of this convention was "Oral Cancer Prevention- Reflection, Introspection & Innovation" wherein a plethora of knowledge was learnt and exchanged amongst more than 250 delegates from various Dental Colleges across the Nation.

DAY 1 - 5 th July, 2014

Honorable Chief Guest, Mrs Rekha Gulabani & other dignitaries inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp Mrs. Rekha Gulabani shared her invaluable experiences in Oral Cancer Prevention.Guest Lectures were delivered by globally acclaimed speakers. Dr Sunita Gupta revealed the recent concepts and advancements in the Prevention and Cure of Oral cancer. Dr. Monika Arora reasserted and reemphasized the 'Clinical & Community based Tobacco Cessation strategies in India'. Dr. Roopa Hariprasad shared her knowledge regarding 'Community Based Oral Cancer Screening' in her Guest Lecture. Gurukul lectures were arranged separately for 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd Year PG students with an aim of providing guidance regarding the right path to be followed for mastering the subject.

DAY 2 - 6 th July, 2014

Dr. R M Pandey delivered the Guest Lecture on much needed topic of Basic statistical methods in Health Research & Data management and analysis using SPSS. The convention lived up to its billing as vast Knowledge and ideas were exchanged with regard to Reflection, Introspection & Innovation in Prevention of Oral Cancer.

 World Health Day 2014

World Health Day was celebrated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Surendra Dental College and Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. The ceremony was opened by Dr. Gorav Gupta,Managing Director and Dr. Yogesh Gupta, Principal. The official posters, pamphlets issued by WHO were distributed amongst faculty, students and patients. The nearest slum area was also covered and people were educated about vector borne diseases, signs & symptoms and simple preventive measures. A special health education wing was also opened in the Department of Public Health Dentistry where patients were educated using posters and videos.

 World No Tobacco Day-2014



Centre: Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY-2014 was observed by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore. A street play organized by the Final year BDS and MDS students captured the imagination of patients and their attendants in Victoria Hospital Campus, Bangalore. Interns participated in the poster competition organized by the Karnataka Cancer Society, Bangalore and won consolation prizes

Centre: KLE V.K. Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum

Department of Public Health Dentistry, KLE V.K. Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum conducted a mega camp was organized on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2014. A banner was designed for tobacco awareness in the Hindi, English and other regional languages i.e. Marathi and Kannada. Banners were displayed at the camp site. A total of 3299 patients were screened were also given health education regarding ill effects of tobacco. During the afternoon session 2-3 p.m. a guest lecturer was delivered by Dr. Mamata Hebbal to KSRTC employees and Anganwadi workers

Centre: Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneswar

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneswar, organized street protests on this event at highly crowded locations in the city. The hospital receptions lobby portrayed a 'No-Tobacco' message through Rangoli. Then the team gathered at the entrance of the City Railways Station, staging a protest by shouting anti-tobacco slogans using a portable public address system and distribution of pamplets. Similar demonstration was staged in another busy intersection of the city - Jaydev Vihar underpass then finally, moving on to the city bus stand. Public were attracted to the cigarette costumes worn by our interns during this event.

Centre: Jaipur Dental College, Jaipur

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Jaipur Dental College, in collaboration with Indian Dental Association, Jaipur Branch organized a rally at Central Park, Jaipur to spread awareness towards the ill-effects of tobacco consumption and methods of tobacco cessation. The message was spread through distribution of pamphlets and banners too were held to reinforce the message. "Nukkad Natak" too was organized which highlighted deleterious effects of tobacco consumption. The onlookers were encouraged to pledge to stop the use of tobacco and also promotion of tobacco and tobacco products with immediate effects.

Centre: D.J.College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar

'World No Tobacco Day-2014 was celebrated in D.J.College of Dental Sciences and Research,Modinagar. A procession was carried out on a bright sunny summer morning on anti tobacco day from D J College of Dental Sciences & Research to Nagar Panchayat Bhawan of Niwari village. After that the street play (Nukkad Natak) was enacted in front of Nagar Panchayat Bhawn by the students of D.J. College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar, educating general public on the harmful effects of tobacco, its impact on the social life and suggesting ways to reduce tobacco use emphasizing on the outcome of raising taxes on tobacco products.

The play titled "Tambakoo se haari zindagi bechari" showed the story of two labourers(RamKishan and sanju)two college friends(Salmaan and Akshay) and Company manager Mr.Abrol and his Secretary ;who used tobacco in various forms at a very early age. But, then Health minister took a timely and firm decision of raising taxes on tobacco products which compelled all of them to first reduce and then gradually quit tobacco. They soon realized how beneficial is quitting tobacco habit for themselves and their family.At the end of the play, a small speech on the ill effects of the tobacco was given by the post graduate student and pledge was taken by all the viewers to quit tobacco

MAHARASHTRA CHAPTER OF IAPHD

Department of Public Health Dentistry of Dr.D.Y Patil Dental College and Hospital, Pimpri Pune, along with Maharashtra Chapter of IAPHD Conducted Lecture on Manuscript Preparation on 23rd April 2014. The Speaker was Dr. L Nagesh. About 122 (Post graduate students and few teachers) attended this programme

Department of Public Health Dentistry of Dr.D.Y Patil Dental College and Hospital, Pimpri Pune, along with Maharashtra Chapter of IAPHD Conducted Workshop on Reference management using Mendeley and Tips on scientific writing on 21st June 2014. The Speaker was Dr. Dr. Puneet Gupta. About 64 (Post graduate students and few teachers) attended this programme

IAPHD BANGALORE CHAPTER

The Executive Committee of IAPHD Bangalore chapter organised 1st ever examination orientation program for Post Graduate students "PATHFINDER" at V.S. Dental College Bangalore on 02/04/2014 and 03/04/2014. There were more than 130 delegates comprising Post graduate students and staff. The guest speakers included Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Pramila. CDE Program

A CDE program on Bio-Medical/ Dental Waste Management was conducted by Christian Dental College & Hospital, Ludhiana, on 5th April'2014. The basic principles of bio-medical waste management and the current status were taken up Dr. Ramesh Nagarajappa. Other topics were legal guidelines of Bio-medical waste management by Dr. Amandeep Pabbla, emphasizing on the dental aspects like Amalgam waste by Dr. Kapil Dua, Dental laboratory and radiological waste was addressed by Dr. Ritu Jain followed by a panel discussion.
