 World Mental Health Day-2019: Centre- Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, organised a full day session to commemorate the World Mental Health Day, with the theme: “Mental Health Promotion and Suicide prevention” on 10th October, 2019 at Kadar Drug and alcohol treatment centre in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar. The aim was to spread awareness on how mental health is associated with addiction and there is a need to prioritize mental health. The session was an interactive one where the inmates asked questions related to their mental well-being and de-addiction. They spoke about their mental state at the time of addiction. An oral health wellness screening camp was also conducted. Everyone participated with zeal to promote their mental and oral health.

 National Toothbrushing Day-2019: MukhSwacch-SwasthAbhiyan

We conducted a two week long (5th to 18th November) tooth brushing awareness campaign in the institution and in the city. On 5th November 2019 the inaugural ceremony of “MukhSwacch-SwasthAbhiyan” done at the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government college of dentistry, Indore. Master training of oral hygiene with early clinical exposure was initiated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry for the 1st year undergraduate BDS students with the aim to acquire knowledge about common dental diseases, oral hygiene aids and to know the status of dental diseases in community. On 7th November 2019, supervised tooth-brushing program was conducted with motivational communication and demonstration allied to oral health maintenance and promotion held at various schools and special emphasis to be laid on tooth brushing importance and methods based upon the principle “learning by doing”. On 11th November 2019, impromptu talent show for underprivileged kids was conducted. On 14th November 2019, painting competition on “oral health for healthy life” and fashion show on “oral hygiene aids” for kindergarten children were conducted. On 18th November 2019, valedictory function was held.

 World No Tobacco Day - 2019: Center: School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University, Noida

As a part of the Community Social Responsibility (CSR) School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University Department Of Public Health Dentistry on occasion of ”World No Tobacco Day” conducted various activities to educate people about the ill effects of tobacco use and motivate people to quit this habit and adopt health life choices. Dr. M Siddharth, Dean, School of Dental Sciences, was invited for a live panel discussion on the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day” organized by department of public health dentistry and conducted by TV channel “Zee Business”. Guest Lecture on the topic “Tobacco Cessation Methodologies: Need of the hour in Educational Institution” by Dr. Akshay Dhoble, Associate Professor, Maitri College Of Dentistry and Research Centre, Durg. Flash Mob at Great India Place Mall, Noida Sector 38. Radio talk was done with “Suno Sharda” 90.8 FM about the ill effects of tobacco use on General and Oral Health. A health education drive for the people in and outside of the university was conducted. While the people outside the university mainly comprised of auto drivers and those running small eateries outside the university.
