It is increasingly recognized that oral health plays an important role in overall health and well-being. Accessing timely oral health care during the perinatal period is essential for maintaining the health and well-being of both women and their children. Mother's role in the oral health of her child begins as early as her pregnancy. Pregnancy and early childhood are the most critical periods for ensuring good oral health in the future of a child. This review provides an overview of the major barriers to addressing oral health needs during the perinatal period and it also presents a range of strategies for improving women's oral health. The initialization of healthy dental habits should not have to wait until the child is born but should come into effect during perinatal period and association between all health care professionals will help us to pursue excellence.
