A Trial of Use of Electro- Acupuncture Analgesia in Dentistry

Aim: To find out the effectiveness, limitations and acceptance of Electro acupuncture analgesia in three different routine dental treatment procedures.
Materials and methods: Twenty randomly selected out-patients of Government Dental College, Bangalore. Information regarding patients' complaint, history, previous treatment, diagnosis and description of pain as well as details about the actual electro-acupuncture analgesia procedure were recorded in a specially designed record form.
Results: Out of 20 patients 10 adults and 2 children were subjected to Exodontia procedure, 4 for crown and restoration work, 4 underwent periodontal surgical treatment procedures. 17 of them did not feel any pain at all, 2 of them experience very slight pain and 1 of them slight pain and the acceptance for the treatment was good for all the groups. The limitations were cost of the equipment was high, required trained acupuncturists as well training courses in India. |
