My dear colleagues,

All of us must be very proud that Public Health Dentistry is cruising across the globe as a diversified specialty of oral sciences. The knowledge gained from the contribution of our dedicated professionals made our subject a unique and highly dynamic specialty offering incredible opportunities for us to be the part of such a remarkable progress.

Public Health Dentistry graduates in our country acquire experience based knowledge and skills, which make them versatile professionals compared to others elsewhere in the world. This is because of the excellent field experience, which we gain through our community-based activity. The varied ethnicity, cultural settings provide a great insight into challenging needs of the community. The professional talent of our young public health graduates needs wide radiance across the globe.

I have a great confidence in our highly skilled young professionals who deserve the best of the opportunity to make their mark in the field of Public Health Dentistry. The time has come for all of us to look beyond our self-created boundaries of the profession. The whole world is looking toward India for the technical skill and manpower to bring about radical changes in the management and surveillance of existing oral problems. We can guide the world with the new technologies and skills from our community-centric professional experience gained during outreach programs which is unique for Indian sub-continent.

At present, public health dentistry graduates are more oriented toward an academic career. We need to diversify our thinking all-round toward the excellent opportunities offered in other areas such as research, epidemiology, and administration.

As the president of the IAPHD, I am always inclined for the changes in our field. The changes are always inevitable for creating sustainable technological and administrative changes, which mark the progress in any scientific field. Let us move together with innovative ideas to achieve the best possible goal that is realistic and benefit the whole population of the world.

With warm regards
