The knowledge and technical advancements are two creative forces needed to carry out scientific application toward the betterment of humankind. Researchers have achieved the great success in their efforts to prove new scientific concepts and theories. Many of us are immensely involved in research activity, eager to add new information to the existing scientific literature.

"Most of our research work remains in cupboards of libraries which are never opened by anyone."

Research conducted by public health dentists becomes meaningful only when it is useful for planning and also in implementing programs to prevent oral diseases and promote oral health among every social sector of our society.

We are in the era of information technology. The fascinating source of online information has become an integral part of our daily life. Everywhere, information is available but knowledge has become scarce. It is very important to understand the avenues to bring such technological applications for routine use of humankind. In my opinion, technology means keeping things in a simplest possible way and it must be cost-effective in every aspect. Let us not forget that our prime goal is to bring change in every individual's life, see that every citizen of this country is free from disease and leads a healthy life.

Every public health dentist dreams to have an effective and a sustainable oral health policy for our people. It has been several years since we have been contemplating, discussing, and making efforts to have such integrated program in Health System of India. A beginning has been made in the State of Karnataka to incorporate oral health policy into the health care delivery system of Government of Karnataka. It is the result of collective teamwork of many public health dentists who came together and made their great contribution in the implementation of oral health policy for Karnataka state. A separate budget has been allocated for this purpose. Let us look forward to take up the initiative to extend such beneficial programs to every state of our country. All of us must act together with professional commitment and zeal to achieve it.

The need-based scientific activity together with conscious use of acquired new knowledge in extending oral health care for every common man is important. This justifies our efforts to achieve new heights in providing ultimate benefits to the humanity.

We must understand the reality of existing situation in our country and decide what paradigm shift to be made in our professional training for future public health dentists.

"The oral health of millions of Indians should not be left to luck or chance."

With warm regards
