Greetings!

Welcome to the first issue of the year 2017.

At the outset, I wish you all a happy and a prosperous New Year 2017. The year marks the beginning of new hopes, aspirations and expectations. I wish we achieve greater heights this year and this is possible with our co-ordinated efforts.

DOAJ is often cited as a source of quality, open access journals in research and scholarly publishing circles. I am glad to inform that JIAPHD is indexed with, or included in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). This initiative will help in increasing the journal visibility.

The quality of the journal makes a great difference. The researchers always look for original work that has been conducted using valid and reliable methods for inclusion in their literature review, which in turn strengthens their research also. The quality of the article is determined by the journal, authors, period of publication and citations that it attracts after publication. This responsibility is shared among the authors, reviewers, Editorial Board and publishers.

In addition to the content and quality of the research, documentation of the research is considered equally important in reaching the desired audience. The correctness of the language in terms of grammar and the context becomes important. I am of the firm opinion that there is a need to look into the matter, and our association may organise Continuing Dental Education (CDE)/workshops to improve skills in medical writing for the benefit of faculty and students.

Our archives is almost complete with back volumes. Hope this initiative serves the scientific community at large in feeding the research work pertaining to Public Health Dentistry in India. At the same time, young researchers will get first information of the past research and need not reinvent the wheel. Future research should be focussed on providing evidence for the policymakers in making decisions for the improvement of oral health in India. Multicentric surveys and trials are also needed to cover the representative population for better validity and reliability.

I sincerely thank the authors, reviewers, Editorial Board, Medknow and IAPHD Head Office for supporting all our endeavours.

Best wishes.
