Inaugurated by Dr.R.K. Bali, former president Dental Council of India, in the presence of Dr. Sethuraman.K.R Vice chancellor, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University, Dr. Aswath Narayanan, President IAPHD and Dr. Carounanidy Usha, Dean, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences.
This convention was based on the theme Oral Programs “Reaching The Unreached” where international speakers spoke on various aspects of delivering oral health care services to the underserved people.
More than 250 public health dentist over the country presented their scientific posters and prototypes of various oral health programs to reach people.
At the end, a panel discussion headed by Dr. Swathicharan, Program Director of National Oral Health Program (NOHP), Government of India, discussed on various models of public and private partnership in implementing NOHP.

- All the states should preferably have one Nodal officer or Oral Health Consultant for NOHP with a qualification of MDS Public health dentistry
- IAPHD should provide a Policy framework for implementation of PPP model by involving the public health dentistry departments of all the dental institutes for better implementation of NOHP.
- This framework once drafted would be submitted to MoHFW for discussion and necessary action to be taken at all appropriate levels.
- All the private public health dentistry departments will provide the services as directed by the Nodal officer and be supported as proposed by the policy framework.
- The state Nodal officer will evaluate and monitor the PPP model and allocate the districts for each dental college for NOHP.

Centre: KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi
A one day workshop on Problem Solving was organized on 26th May, 2017. Dr. Pradnya Kakodkar, Prof and H.O.D. of Department of Public Health Dentistry, D.Y. Patil Dental College, Pimpri was the Guest Speaker. A hands on workshop where Dr. Pradnya Kakodkar, Staff of Department of Public Health Dentistry, KLE VKIDS viz; Dr. Anil V. Ankola, Dr. Roopali Sankeshwari, Dr. Pratibha Patil, Dr. Sagar Jalihal participated along with the PG's. The workshop was an interactive session wherein the students were given the major focus. The students as well as the staff found it very useful.

CDE Programme | | |
Centre: KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi
A CDE programme was conducted by Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with DDE, KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences on 29th May 2017 for 13 dental surgeons of satellite clinics on Indications and contra indications of painkillers and antibiotics dentistry, Use and misuse of Antibiotics in Endodontics, Exodontia Made Easya nd Care for Space Indication and Identification of Red and White Lesions. Most of them appreciated the workshop.

World no Tobacco Day 2017 | | |
Centre: Govt. Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore
Department of Public health Dentistry, GDC and RI Bangalore organized various activities on this occasion with WHO theme “Tobacco – a threat to development”. Posters were displayed in the college campus and patients were educated regarding tobacco cessation using short films, model and pamphlets. The staff and students participated in panel discussion for “Tobacco Free Initiative” held in BMCRI, Bangalore. Students also participated in competition held at Karnataka Cancer Society and won prizes for paintings and documentaries.

World no Tobacco Day 2017 | | |
Centre: D.J. College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar
Anti tobacco rally was organized on the eve of No Tobacco day (31st May, 2017) at the college campus. The rally was followed by a signing campaign in which all the students, staff, out-patients, villagers enlightened themselves about the effects of tobacco and signed the petition against the use of it and pledged to educate others about the same. Street play (NukkadNatak) was enacted in college campus by the students educating general public on the harmful effects of tobacco in any form, its impact on the health, community and social life and suggesting ways to reduce tobacco use. The students and staff pledged not to consume tobacco and requested people of Modinagar to avoid tobacco in any form, so that the present and future generations can be saved from its ill effects.

Centre: Institute Of Dental Studies And Technologies, Modinagar
This year, activities were organized from 29-31 May2017 in collaboration with Heritage Academy, Modinagar to bring awareness among young generation of school children as part of tobacco cessation and control. An oral health talk regarding “Tobacco: the Killer” was delivered at Heritage Academy, Modinagar on 29th May 2017 by Dr. Shilpi Singh. On 30th May 2017, poster making and slogan writing competition was conducted amongst the BDS students. A lecture was taken to sensitize dental students regarding harmful effects of tobacco. On 31st May 2017, awareness campaign regarding harmful effects of tobacco use among general public was carried out at the college OPD with the use of pamphlets, placards and posters.

Centre: Surendera Dental College and Research Institute Sriganganagar. Rajasthan
Department Of Public Health Dentistry, Surendera Dental College and Research Institute, SriGanganagar organized an Anti-tobacco campaign 2017. This crusade included a series of educational talk and motivational sessions conducted at various places targeting population from different stream and cadre such as rural population, college students and school teachers. Special emphasis was given towards the current theme by WHO “Tobacco a threat to development”. Oral health screening programme was initiated for general population. A poster making competition was organized at the institute and these posters were displayed for the general population to motivate them towards ill effects of tobacco.

Centre: Jodhpur Dental College General Hospital, Jodhpur, Rajasthan
On this occasion, lectures and interactive sessions were conducted by the institution in 2 different handicraft factories in Boranada village. Lecture on adverse health effects of tobacco was followed by interactive session. All the employees of the factory were also interviewed to collect first hand data on tobacco use, the kind of tobacco usage followed by tobacco dependence assessment. After the session the interested employees were referred to the college for tobacco counseling.

Centre: Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Patia, Bhubaneswar,
Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, had organised various activities in the Dental Hospital and as well as in the public. A guest lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, School of Public Health, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar on various Tobacco related issues and updates followed by a quiz competition. A rally was flagged by the Dr. R C Das, Director, KIDS and Dr. Shruti Dev, Principal, KIDS shouting anti-tobacco slogans and distributing pamphlets. A Nukkad was performed at Master Canteen chaak by the Interns to encourage the public to quit the use of various forms of Tobacco.

This program was organized in collaboration with ESIC Medical College, Faridabad, and Lions Club, Lake City, Faridabad from 29-31th May 2017. Screening for oral disease, tobacco use sensitization and health education against tobacco use through street play at urban and rural health centres of ESIC Medical College, Faridabad by team of Manav Rachna Dental College were held. Poster making competition, slogan writing competition and rangoli competition based on the World No Tobacco Day theme at Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) were organised.

IAPHD Tamilnadu Chapter
This year on world no tobacco day, IAPHD Tamilnadu chapter has initiated a program, “Inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Clinic at Public Health Dentistry” In this program nine Public Health Dentistry Departments participated and inaugurated the clinic on the same day. The program was supported by CANCER INSTITUTE, ADYAR AND CIPLA NICOTEX.
