“Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”

–Swami Vivekananda.

Greetings to all!

As we, the public health dentists act as national voice for people's oral health in India, our goal is to achieve maximum oral health to every citizen through affordable and accessible oral health care. Since IAPHD is dedicated to the oral health of Indian citizens, this goal becomes even more important as our association completes 25 years of service.

As a team together with IAPHD, I am happy to see that a healthy community of new and old members is working toward this goal. Yet, we further need to foster an open dialog in creating an open environment for proactive ideas and engage with government, institutions, and organizations with the ultimate goal of achieving optimal oral health of our citizens.

At this important juncture of IAPHD, it is really a sad moment for us that the person who was responsible for conceiving the subject of Public Health Dentistry as a professional course in India, Dr. Mohan Das Bhat has passed away. It was really a blessing that I was one of his undergraduate students. The way he trained us was unique.

As a part of celebrating the Silver Jubilee of IAPHD, the association has decided to conduct various activities. The intention to enter into the Guinness Book of Records for tooth brushing on National Tooth Brushing Day has been tentatively decided to be conducted in 3rd week of November, 2018. The various other activities such as teachers training program, school programs, quiz competitions, drawing, and painting competitions will also be conducted. I am sure these activities enrich the knowledge and attitude toward oral health among all sectors of society. Our association intends to continue these activities on a regular basis.

I am honored to serve as the association's President for the past 1 year. This past year has been an enriching experience for me and sincere efforts were made by the entire team of the association towards carrying out our responsibilities.

I would like to take this platform to express my gratitude to one and all. I am honored and thankful to Dr. R. K. Bali for his guidance and support. I am grateful to Dr. S. S. Hiremath and Dr. Aswath Narayanan for the support at every step and all the encouragement given to me. I thank Hon. Gen. Secretary Dr. Sabyasachi Saha for a fruitful association. Dr. Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Joint Secretary, deserves special thanks from me for taking care of all the administrative work.

My heartfelt thanks extend to vice presidents Dr. Arun Doddamani and Dr. Manjunath Puranik. The inspiration and encouragement shown by Dr. Manjunath Puranik cannot be explained in words.

The inexpressible blessing of my teacher Dr. M. R. Shankar Aradhya is memorable.

I am very thankful and grateful to all the EC members for the cooperation and support given to me.

I would like to express my appreciation to the Editor Dr. Sowmya K. R and team, serving sincerely for our Journal of Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry and I also congratulate on the occasion of journal being indexed with Index Copernicus.

I would also like to wish Dr. Basavaraj and his team a grand success in the upcoming 23rd National Conference of IAPHD.

I would like to conclude this message as homage to my Guru, philosopher, and guide, mentor Dr. B. K. Venkat Raman, the farmer Principal, Government Dental College, Bengaluru. I humbly attribute my academic growth to Dr. Venkat Raman, who was one of the main forces behind my professional life. It is because of him I am something today in academics. He was a real teacher who inspired many of his students. It is a real pride for many of us that we were the students of Dr. B. K. Venkata Raman and Dr. Mohan Das Bhat.

I really hope to see this wonderful tradition of teacher-student relationship to be instilled in the present academic atmosphere as an essential ingredient in passing on the principles and values of life in general and academic subject and profession in particular. This will not only build a solid base for creating the future public health dentists but also takes care of our ultimate goal of achieving optimum oral health for the public.

With Best Wishes.
