Greetings to all!
It has been a nice experience and recognition of being the president of the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD). I have had the opportunity of attending two training programs as a president.
”The Path Finder” program for postgraduate students organized by the IAPHD, Bengaluru branch, in coordination with KLE Dental College, Bengaluru. It was a well-attended program where the student expectation for an enlightening knowledge in the curriculum and preparations for the postgraduate examinations were met, and I personally felt that there was room for improvement which could be achieved by reforming the curriculum that provides a wider scope for the specialty. A teacher's training program for setting up protocols in teaching, training, and evaluation.
Subsequently, I had the privilege of attending another south zone faculty development program, an initiation of the IAPHD head office organized by the Tamil Nadu chapter, IAPHD at Chennai. Here, all the above protocols mentioned were discussed and debated on, and the participating teachers were provided with new trends and modifications in teaching, training, and evaluation strategies that blend perfectly with the present generation of the digital era. The final outcome enhanced knowledge and ideas among the participants. In addition, I felt the need for improvising the curriculum of public health dentistry since it has the potential to broaden the scope for career opportunities in this field.
I congratulate Dr. Saha, our Hon. Secretary for taking a call on the “World No Tobacco Day,” May 31, 2019. The theme was well received and observed, and many programs were held all over the country, making a remarkable impact. I feel such initiatives by IAPHD and DCI would bring about a revolutionary change in the oral health-care delivery.
Dr. Vikrant Mohanty, the organizing chairman of the 13th postgraduation convention to be held at Maulana Aazaad College of Dental Sciences, Delhi, has been working hard on the theme “Advancing Public Health Dentistry Landscape in India” is aptly chosen, with preconvention programs and innovative student activities. I wish the organizing team a great success in their initiative and the participants an insightful and enriching experience. I strongly appeal to all the members to actively participate in the convention and make it a grand success.
