Dear Members,

”Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller.

The dental public health field has been expanding, and a Public Health Dentist is expected to develop strong analytical skills, excellent communication for discussing policies with lawmakers or others which includes written and spoken skills, and attention to small details that can have a big impact on the overall dental health of the public. I request all the faculty and students of Public Health Dentistry to work toward this.

I am very glad to share the news that our specialty all over India has observed the “World No Tobacco Day” on May 31 and spread awareness about the ill effects of tobacco.

The IAPHD started in the year 1993. Started with only 24 members today, the membership strength is now around 2550. Probably, this is one of the largest organized bodies of Public Health Dentists in the world today. By definition, Public Health Dentistry is the “art and science of preventing oral diseases, promoting oral health, and prolonging the health of all oral tissues through organized community efforts.” The association had, therefore, decided in 2015 to join with the community and celebrate a “NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY DAY” on June 19 of each year. This is the first of its kind in the world. The program was dedicated to the nation on June 19, 2015. This is the 6th year of the program and was celebrated in a grand manner.

Best wishes to all the examination-going postgraduates.
