The year 2021, like 2020, will be remembered for a long time. It has left an indelible impact on our memories for impacting our lives in some way, resulting in substantial changes in both our personal and professional lives. If the year 2020 tested us beyond measure, 2021 has been the year when science took center stage, and apart from new findings on coronavirus every single day, mass vaccinations across the globe on an unprecedented scale showed the iron will of researchers and medical professionals to face such extraordinary times.

Life could not stop. It had to move on and 2021 saw a tectonic shift toward the digital world. While reams have been written about the challenges of remote learning, educationists have been successful in developing credible, institutionalized, and periodic performance-driven evaluation systems based on digital platforms. Thus, results have been stellar despite the fears that learning may be limited because of delving into unfamiliar and uncharted territories of e-learning for a major part of the curriculum.

Although meetings, gatherings, conferences, and conventions in a physical mode were shut down yet, the learning never stopped. The delegates readily adapted to distance learning. Both the presenters and audiences seamlessly blended with the technology to continue the knowledge exchange smoothly. Yes, it was certainly a novel experience for most. Yes, the person-to-person contact was missing, but the hunger to learn far surpassed the “missing” elements.

We at the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD) were ringside viewers to this mega change having successfully organized the 25th National IAPHD Conference on digital platform in virtual mode. Around 1000 delegates participated in this 4-day extravaganza. Renowned world speakers and 26 resource persons gave lectures in this event. There were more than 500 scientific presentations at this event. A host of other digital events throughout the year made it a scientifically vibrant and fulfilling year. I am sure the year 2022 will also be a time of great learning, and our members shall stand tall, stoic, and resilient to face any unforeseen adversity.

Let the old year end and the New Year begin with the warmest aspirations.

Advance Happy New Year!

Long Live IAPHD.
