Hearty Welcome and warm Greetings
With the blessings of almighty, my parents, my seniors, and members, I have taken over as President of the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD) during the 26th National Conference of IAPHD after two decades of my association with IAPHD. I remember my teacher and mentor, Dr. S S Hiremath, for inducting and guiding me throughout. I deem it as an honor to work with great administrators and teachers and friends. I was well supported by Director, GDCRI Bangalore and Staff members and the PG students, Department of Public Health Dentistry. My thanks to ever supporting family and well-wishers.
I earnestly aspire and strive to achieve excellence in academics, services, and research areas with the support of dedicated and committed office bearers and executive committee members and members of IAPHD.
We are in the phase of transition in academics that is poised to embrace a new curriculum at the undergraduate level with emphasis on competency-based education. There is a need to orient our members in the implementation of the new curriculum and take it to international standards. Dentistry should become the first choice and dental education should reach international standards.
Our specialty is meant for taking dentistry to doorstep through programs. There is a need for coordinated efforts to provide oral health that is equitable with community participation. We need to collaborate with the government and nongovernmental organizations. Public health programs should be designed that are sustainable and cost-effective. Public health dentist should assume the role of nodal officers at the district level in the planning and implementation of oral health programs.
Research in public health is important to advance dentistry in general and the specialty in particular and inform the policymakers and clinicians for improving oral health.
Lot to be achieved.
