World cancer day
Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneswar joined the global fight against cancer by organising an cancer awareness rally.
The rally was flagged off by the Principal, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences; Dr. R C Das. This rally on foot was set off from KIIT University to Master Canteen Chaak - a busy intersection adjoining the city railways station entry, then advanced towards the Police Commissioners office and the neighbouring the district administrative offices.
The current scenario of cancer in the state of Odisha was highlighted by Dr. Gautham in his eye-opening presentation with special emphasis placed on the measure taken by different sectors towards prevention of cancer.
An interactive quiz programme for the final year BDS students of the college was conducted by Dr. Amitabh Panda. It is only by every person individually, private organisations, and government doing their part that the world will be able to reduce prematur deaths from this devastating disease.

A Symposium was organized on "Cancer- Debunk the Myths" in collaboration with IDA Daman Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli (U.T.) State Branch. Dr.Bhumika Kamal Badiyani,Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Heath Dentistry, Vaidik Dental College and Research Centre, Daman and Organizing Secretary of the Symposium spoke on the most common myths associated with Cancer, the current statistics of Oral Cancer and the ill effects of Tobacco. Dr.Harish Kadganche, Dean of Vaidik Dental College and Research Centre, Daman and President of IDA Daman Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli (U.T.) State Branch spoke about the Role of a Dentist in Oral Cancer. Dr.Akshay Kishore Nadkarni a Cancer and Laproscopic Surgeon, Vapi was invited to speak about Premalignant Lesions & Management of Oral Cancer. Dr.Amit Kumar. About 108 Dentists participated in the Symposium.
Spot and Prevent Oral Cancer Trauma Centre
Spot and Prevent Oral Cancer Trauma Centre (S.P.O.T Centre) was inaugurated in the premises in the eve of World Cancer Day with the mission and vision to detect potentially malignant cancers at the earliest and to counsel patients against the detrimental effects of smoking and smokeless form of tobacco.. It is the first one in Daman. The inauguration was done by Mr.Ramesh Verma the Collector of Daman, Padmashri Dr.S.S.Vaishya, Dr.Zehan Irani, Secretary of IDA Daman Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli (U.T.) State Branch and Mr.Aspi Damania.
Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry, TN Chapter and Scientific & Academic Forum, IGIDS has organized a one day
CDE program titled, "CID in Research" on 4th January 2014.
In this program, four eminent speakers Dr. Sathyanarayanan, Dr. Sunayna Manipal, Dr. Srisakthi & Dr. Ganesh had shared their knowledge on the respective topics with 111 registered delegates from 18 dental colleges of Tamilnadu & Pondicherry.
Dept of Public Health Dentistry under the banner of IAPHD (UP Chapter) and hosted by D.J. College of Dental Sciences & Research. Modinagar organized a National CDE programme "AN OVERVIEW OF HEALTH RESEARCH" on 8th February 2014
Dr. Nagesh L. and Dr. Chandrashekhar J delivered guest lecture for the CDE Program. The program also displayed flash video Journey of Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry since its inception to till date.
World Dentists Day Activities
Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneswar celebrated The World Dentists Day, 3rd March 2014, by organising a free camp for the examination of oral disease at the outpatient registration lobby of Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Closely 180 patients were screened and referred to the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences.
Dr. Pranav Pattnaik, Joint Director (NCD Division), Health Services, Government of Odisha was invited to inaugurate the screening camp and deliver a guest lecture on the most common NCD related to oral cavity which was; Oral cancer. Dr. P Pattnaik presented an explicit lecture on the etiological factor, early diagnosis and the various strategies for the prevention of oral cancer.
World Dentists Day Activities
Department of Public Health Dentistry of Sarjug Dental College and Mata R. Devi Dental Hospital, Darbhanga, Bihar, celebrated Dentist's Day on 6thMarch 2014. On this occasion, a free dental camp was organized from the institution in Maunbehat village, which is 45 Kms from Darbhanga city. I am sending the report for the same along with few photographs. Department of Public Health Dentistry ,Vaidik Dental College and Research Centre,Daman organized Dentist Day 2014 on 06/03/2014. A Dental Screening and Oral health education camp was organized for factory workers working for a pharmaceutical company in Daman. All the employees within the company were interviewed for information on tobacco use and those who were currently using tobacco in any form were listed during the tobacco dependence assessment. Dr.Bhumika Kamal Badiyani rendered Oral health education on maintenance of Oral hygiene and gave more importance on explaining the ill effects of Tobacco usage and its relationship to Oral cancer.
Oral Health Month - March 2014
Department of Public Health Dentistry, A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Deralakatte (A constituent of Nitte University) supported by its network of 15 Rural Health centres enthusiastically celebrated a plethora of activities designed to spread awareness about oral health in the community.
Oral examination & education were given to about 2200 people, dental care rendered to about 500 patients, Health talks to spread awareness benefitting about 1000 people. The events were held at Mangalore and around the rural centers covering an extensive geographic area in the radius of about 100kms
I BDS students presented skits and street plays on themes like general and oral hygiene, ill effects of tobacco in 5 different locations. The month long events culminated with Flash mob, health exhibition, Oral Examination, games stalls and drawing competitions initiated, organized and conducted by interns at Mangalore on 20th March 2014.

Karnataka Oral Health Policy
On 17th February 2014, 'Oral Health Policy - Phase 1 for Karnataka' program was held at the indoor auditorium, Yenepoya University. Dr C V Raghuveer, Registrar, Yenepoya University admired the efforts taken by the organizers of the symposium. Dr Ramanand Shetty, the chief guest, appreciated Dr Ganesh Shenoy Panchmal in bringing such a huge number of dental professionals together for formulating the policy
Variety of issues was deliberated. The speakers included Dr B V Manjunath, Dr KVV Prasad, Dr Shashidhar Acharya, Dr Gopi Krishna V, Dr HL Jaya Kumar, Dr Namita Shanbhag, Dr Manjunath P Puranik, Dr KiranIyer, Dr Vardharajula Venkata Ramaiah, Dr Kelvin Peter Pais and Dr Gagandeep M Chadha.
In the Valedictory function 'Oral Health Policy - Phase 1 for Karnataka' was submitted to Mr.U T Khader, Minister, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka for improving oral health in Karnataka
