Hearty wishes from the Head Office.

With the colleges starting to implement the Dental Council of India (DCI) circular which states,

Every Dental Institution MUST have a separate Department of Public Health Dentistry.Teaching of the specialty must be done ONLY by the specialists in Public Health DentistryBoth the examiners MUST be from the specialty of Public Health DentistryStaff Pattern can be either Professor/Reader/TWO Senior Lecturers.

A new set of situations have started surfacing:

I am happy to note that most of the colleges seem to be interested in complying immediatelySome Universities and Colleges seem to be trying to utilize the 1-year clause to the maximum effectSome Institutions, based on whether they are UG or PG Institutions are rejuggling the Reader/Senior lecture combination to suit their needs best, thereby affecting the prospects of either the Reader or Senior LecturerThe Periodontia staffs who were manning the Department of Public Health Dentistry seem to not reconcile their new status, as their teaching experience is not considered for the subject of Periodontia and seniority questioned in their parent department. I would like to kindly submit that when they joined our department earlier, it was because there was no vacancy in their department and, therefore, the years they have been working in our department is actually a Godsend. Therefore, now that our careers are in the line, they must accept it with equanimity. Needless to add that their yeomen service to our department when we did not have a staff is gratefully acknowledgedRegarding the MPH staff, I think there is no room for any grouse. All those whose degrees are recognized by the DCI as equivalent to MDS will continue to hold fort. However, those members, who were with unrecognized degrees and who were working without the knowledge of the DCI, I must say that they have been given a graceful opportunity to utilize their services elsewhere.

With the grace of the Lord, the DCI and all our responsible members, I am sure our specialty will reach great heights.
