 World No Tobacco Day 2016



CENTRE:Kalinga Institute of Dental Science, Bhubaneswar

Department of Public Health Dentistry organized an awareness program in association with National Oral Cancer Prevention Initiative (NOCPI) in relation to World No Tobacco day which is celebrated on 31st May of every year. A flash mob was performed by the interns and final year students posted in the department. The audience was enthralled by such an eye catching event. The students also performed a skit which included a street play spreading awareness about the harmful effects of using tobacco. A rally was also flagged off from Ram Mandir till Master Canteen area in Bhubaneswar. A group of enthusiastic interns, undergraduate and postgraduate students along with faculty members of the Department of Public Health Dentistry participated in this unique rally which caught the attention of the common people and various posters and banners were held by the participants in the rally.

Posters and paintings made by the under graduate students were displayed at Karnataka Cancer Society. Dr. Athma and Dr. Vidyalakshmi received second prize for their poster. A short documentary movie “U –Turn” - directed by Dr. Satyajit/Dr Amal Joe Jacob focused on the addiction to smoking habit that causes the deleterious effect on the physical, social, psychological and financial wellbeing on personal and family life of the smokers. The movie received a trophy by Karnataka Cancer Society. World no tobacco day rally organized by karnataka cancer society on 31st may 2016. To observe “world no tobacco day”, the under graduate students, staff and post graduate students of the department of public health dentistry participated in a rally organized by the karnataka cancer society, to spread awareness about ill effects of tobacco use.

On 31st May 2016, World No Tobacco Day was observed in the OPD of the College. More than two hundred patients and their attendants were educated about ill effects of Tobacco using poster, charts and pamphlets. Students participated in the Posters and paintings competition conducted by Karnataka Cancer Society. Mr Rizwan Ahmed, III BDS student won the first prize in the painting

CENTRE: Institute of Dental Studies and Technologies, Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Institute of Dental Studies and Technologies, Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh organized a successful programme on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day, on the 31st May 2016. The event witnessed logo competition, T-shirt painting competition on 30th May 2016 at the college premises. On 31st of May, the event was opened by Padmashree Dr. L.K. Gandhi, Chairman of the institute. Health exhibition regarding harmful effects of tobacco was held at the reception area and slogans regarding ill-effects of smoking and tobacco use were displayed throughout the college premises. The official posters, pamphlets issued by WHO were displayed in the college campus and hospital. Pamphlets were distributed in Hindi regarding the ill- effects of tobacco and health talks in Hindi were given to all the patients visiting the college. More than 250 patients were educated regarding harmful effects of tobacco, smoking and oral health education materials were distributed to patients at IDST Mayo Hospital.

Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility Committee of Sri Siddhartha Dental College and Hospital, Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, Tumkur celebrated “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY” with theme 'Get Ready for Plain Packaging” on 31/05/2016. The programme included many activities like Awareness, Role-playing and screening for oral cancer. Awareness programme at College lobby with charts, models and posters for the benefit of out patients in the college. Further, committee had arranged oral cancer screening and awareness programme to labor population along with a skit at Mahaveer Coconut Factory, Mallasandra, Tumkur. One fifty factory workers were screened for oral cancer which was followed by education through chart, models.

CENTRE: Manav Rachna Dental College, Faridabad, Haryana

An anti-tobacco rally was held from Govt BK Hospital, Faridabad and ended at Manav Rachna Head Office amidst much enthusiasm and encouragement from Senior dignitaries and the Institutional Heads of Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, other government hospitals and medical colleges of Faridabad. The event was organized by the department of Public Health Dentistry, MRDC and supported by Lions Club, Faridabad. Students of MRDC joined in the initiative as they took to the streets carrying posters and shouting slogans to sensitize people towards the harmful effects of tobacco use and its life threatening effects. MRDC students also performed a Nukkad Natak in front of Govt Hospital, Faridabad to further reinforce the anti tobacco message.

 Oral Hygiene Day – 01/08/2016



Centre: Sri Siddhartha Dental College and Hospital, Tumkur

Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility Committee of Sri Siddhartha Dental College and Hospital, Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, Tumkur observed “ORAL HYGIENE DAY” on 01/08/2016. The programme included activities like Awareness, Treatment and Oral health camps. Awareness programme at College lobby with charts, models and posters for the benefit of out- patients in the college. Free scaling for patients was done along with toothpaste distribution. Further, committee had arranged Oral Health Camp and Awareness Programme at Government Schools, Tumkur. On this occasion of Oral Hygiene Day Programme, we educated the young buds so that they should have good oral health in future.

PILOT 2016

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Sri Ramachandra University organized the Second National Rapid Review Program, PILOT 2016 (Public Health Dentistry Learning Orientation and Training) from January 7 – 9th, 2016 for the post graduates in our specialty. Fifty five delegates from several South Indian states participated in the program. There was a tele conferencing lecture on 'National Oral Health Policy' from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The guest speakers included highly eminent Professors of Public health Dentistry from TamilNadu, Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh.

ANALYSE 2016

A three day workshop on SPSS titled as “ANALYSE 2016” at Tamil Nadu Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Chennai - 600 003. from 26.02.16 to 28.02.16 with limited participants restricted to 25. The programme was inaugurated on 26.02.16 by Dr.B. Saravanan (Principal TNGDCH), Dr. M.B. Aswath Narayanan (President Emeritus -IAPHD TN Chapter and President Elect -IAPHD), Dr. P.D. Madan Kumar, (President - IAPHD TN Chapter), Dr. Akila,(EC member - IAPHD) and Mr. Bhoopathi, (National Institute of Epidemiology). Mr. Bhoopathi, a well known speaker on Epidemiology and Biostatistics has delivered his valuable lecture during the morning sessions of all three days. All the participants were given hands on training with the SPSS software during the afternoon session on all three days.

The 85% saves lives campaign is jointly organized by Cancer Institute, Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry Tamil Nadu chapter, Indian Medical Association (Tamil Nadu State Branch), Tamil Nadu People forum for Tobacco Control on 30.04.2016. The sand sculpture was also be made and a human form depicting 85% is also planned.

ICEBERG 2016

One day CDE programme “ICEBERG 2016” on career orientation was conducted for interns titled as at Tamil Nadu Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Chennai on 23.03.16 with 321 participants from 21 Dental colleges all over Tamil Nadu (15 colleges in Chennai and 6 outstation colleges). The programme was inaugurated on 23.03.16 by Dr. B. Saravanan (Principal TNGDCH), Dr. M.B. Aswath Narayanan (President Emeritus -IAPHD TN Chapter and President Elect -IAPHD) and Dr. P.D. Madan Kumar, (President - IAPHD TN Chapter). Inauguration was graced by IDA members, Principals and faculties of various Dental colleges. We had series of lectures on opportunities for interns by renowned speakers Dr. Vinayak for PG entrance exam preparation, Lt. Col. R. Suresh Kumar for oppurtunities in defence, Dr. Vijay Prakash Mathur for research and funding, Dr. M.S. Muthu for abroad opportunities and Dr. M.B. Aswath Narayanan for practice management. All the participants were provided with buffet lunch. Outstation participants were provided with accommodation for a day. Participation certificates were handed over to all participants at end of the day.

LARGEST ORAL HYGIENE CLASS IN LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS

Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Bhumika Kamal Badiyani and Dr. Nitesh Kamal led a team of 98 Dentists and Dental Students from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sarjug Dental College and Mata R Devi Dental Hospital, Darbhanga, Bihar to conduct the largest oral hygiene class for 3087 people from 9.30 am to 10.07 am at Woodbine Modern School grounds on October 27, 2014.
