 World Cancer Day 2017

World Cancer Day on 4 February every year is a global event uniting the world's population in the fight against cancer. The Department of Public Health Dentistry, conducted a series of oral cancer screening camps during January and February 2017 at 8 different centres in the 19 wards of Kodur panchayat, Malappuram district, Kerala, India to raise awareness about the early signs, symptoms and prevention of oral cancer and improve the quality of life for oral cancer patients through early identification and those affected by oral cancer, through oral health care, support and engagement. An awareness programme was conducted for all the ASHA workers of Kodur panchayat at the Primary Health Centre, Kodur. For increased impact and visibility Talking Hands social media campaign was launched. Talking hands photography contest was conducted among the students and interns of the dental college and the pictures uploaded on to the institution Facebook page using hashtags #WorldCancerDay #WeCanICan to spread awareness.

 World Oral Health Day 2017

Department of Public Health Dentistry celebrated World Oral Health Day based on the theme. “Live Mouth Smart”. Toothbrushes were distributed and health education regarding 'How to Brush their Teeth' were given to all the children and staff members at Government School 1E Choti, SGNR. An educational programme was organized for Ayush doctors at the Office of Chief Medical and Health Officer, Sriganganagar. A total of twenty five doctors attended the educational programme. They were provided with study material regarding diet and dental caries, fluorosis, early identification of periodontal conditions.

 World Oral Health Day 2017



Centre: DJ College of Dental Sciences & Research, Modinagar

The world oral health day was celebrated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, on 20th March 2017. A procession was carried out in the village with banners and posters displaying the importance of oral hygiene. The pamphlets were distributed among the village people, educating them regarding the brushing techniques, use of dental floss and mouth rinses. The slogans were raised against the ill effects of tobacco particularly oral cancer, periodontal disease and also stressed on the tobacco cessation. A “street play” was staged to create awareness about the need for oral hygiene maintenance, ill effect of tobacco and good dietary habits.

Department of Public Health Dentistry organized the CDE programme on the occasion of “World Health Day” on the theme “Depression – let's talk”. The guest speaker Dr. Muralidharan K, Additional Professor, NIMHANS, Bangalore enlightened about different behaviors related to depression and how to cope with it. Poster competition was held for the students. Posters were displayed in the college campus and patients were educated regarding the Depression.

The world health day was celebrated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry with the theme: “Depression-Let's talk”. Nukkad naatak (street play) was enacted in college premises by the students. College students, school students, faculty and OPD Patients were educated through lecture about depression, its sign and symptoms and treatment. Survive-Depression pamphlets and charts were used. The students and staff pledged to overcoming the stigma often associated with depression, and to talk more about depression with the people they are close to and to cultivate better lifestyle to cope up with depression will lead to more people getting help.

 20Th Scientific Convention Elixxir – 2017



Centre: KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi 23-25 March 2017

The Scientific convention was hosted by Department of Public Health Dentistry with the theme “Nature's Basket for oral care… Don't panic, it's organic!” attended by 307 delegates. Day 1 was a pre-scientific convention where the undergraduates presented their research and review papers. Day 2 started with the inauguration followed by a guest lecture by Dr. Mona Kakkar, on “Dentetiquettes” and paper and poster presentations by the interns and postgraduates. Final Day of the convention commenced with a guest lecture by Dr. Chattopadhyaya (Director-ICMR) on “From Protocol to Patency” followed by presentation by Colgate Palmolive and the postgraduates. The valedictory function was hosted by Dr. Roopali Sankeshwari and Dr. Pratibha Patil delivered the vote of thanks.

 Kite Painting Competition



Centre: Jaipur Dental College, Jaipur

In order to memorialize this year's Makar Sankranti as dental health awareness day among children, 'Kite Painting Competition' with the theme 'Importance of Oral Hygiene' was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry. The reason behind the competition was to amalgamate the importance of festival with the oral hygiene among children. Kites were provided to every participant by the department. The students were allowed to make the theme based paintings on kites. The painted kites were distributed the following day to a nearby school. The chosen kites had a public display on 26th January, 2017.
