 National Toothbrushing Day 2017



Center: Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore

This year on 7th November, National toothbrushing day was observed by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore at Government primary school Chamrajpet Bangalore. A team of public health dentists and interns visited the school and demonstrated proper brushing techniques to the present 80 school children from class 1-8. Appropriate audio-visual aids, models, banners and one to one interaction with children were used to enhance the learning experience for the children. Toothpaste samples were distributed along with IEC material to the children.

 National Tooth Brushing Day 2017



Center: Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore

In observance of National Tooth brushing Day, Department of Public Health Dentistry of Rajarajeswari Dental College And Hospital, Bangalore over a period of one week (starting on 07-11-2011), in association with Pepsodent (Hindustan Unilever Ltd.) at multiple locations namely, Channasandra (Urban Health Centre), Chinnakurchi (Government Primary School), Gollahalli (Government Primary School), Chunchunkuppe (Government Primary School), Kengeri (Krishna Chaitanya Special School for Mentally challenged children). Demonstration of correct method of tooth brushing using models and reinforcement of the same was carried out by encouraging the participants to demonstrate the tooth brushing technique that was taught to them. Distribution of free toothpastes that were provided by Pepsodent (Hindustan Unilever Ltd.) was done after the treatment procedures were completed in the camps. Around 500 patients were benefitted from this event.

An oral health screening camp was organized by Department of Public Health Dentistry, SGT Dental College at Government School, Pachgaon village Tauru, Haryana on the occasion of Tooth brushing Day conceptualized by Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry. School children were explained about tooth brushing techniques and were given demonstrations for the same. Toothpastes and toothbrushes were distributed to school children and needy adult population. The purpose of the camp was to spread awareness regarding correct method of tooth brushing among young and adult population.

Center: Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneshwar

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, conducted a school based awareness program involving the postgraduates, interns and final year BDS students posted in the department. The target population were the under privileged children from the public schools in the underserved areas of the city. The children received free oral screening, oral health education, distribution of Colgate-Dental health packs and referral to the dental hospital for the necessary oral healthcare. A total of four schools comprising of roughly 260 students received the benefits of this program.

 Early Clinical Exposure- A Report

Early clinical exposure was initiated by the department of Public Health Dentistry for the 1st year undergraduate B.D.S. students with the aim to acquire knowledge about common dental diseases, oral hygiene aids and to know the status of dental disease in the community. A series of lectures were taken by the staff of Oral medicine and Radiology & Public health dentistry in which gross introduction on Dental Caries, Periodontal disease, Oral Cancer, Survey methodology, Primary Health Care Centre and Rural Satellite Clinic's role and facilities were covered. Students were also explained about the basic proforma for recording of Dental caries and Gingival status in a community setting.

 Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week



Centre: Surendera Dental College & Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan

“Antimicrobial resistance occurs naturally over time, usually through genetic changes. However, the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials is providing the pressure to select drug resistant microbes. World Health Organization had announced 13-19th November 2017 as Antibiotic Resistance awareness week. Department of Public Health Dentistry, Surendera Dental College & Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan conducted a patient awareness campaign having educational sessions and distribution of pamphlets regarding irrational misuse of antibiotics. An in-depth lecture on the topic was conducted for undergraduate and post graduate students in collaboration with Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Surendera Dental College & Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. A camp was also organized in Gunjaal village, Sri Ganganagar where the local practioners were sensitized on the topic and were given insights of the problem which may creep up because of Antibiotic Resistance.
