 World Earth Day Celebration



Center: Faculty of dental sciences at SGT university, Haryana

The Department of Public Health Dentistry of Faculty of Dental Sciences in Association with Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry celebrated World Earth Day on 22nd April 2019. The day started with our Pro Chancellor Dr. Sham Singla and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja leading the way in signing the following pledge, “On This Earth Day, I Pledge To Preserve And Promote Environmental Public Health By Addressing Issues And Promote Sound Policies That Protect The Environmental Health, Wellbeing And Quality Of Life Of The Public In All Communities Across The Country”. Other Head of Departments, faculty members, postgraduates, interns and undergraduate students from Faculty of Dental Sciences followed suit in signing the pledge board and promising to take extra efforts to protect our planet Earth. The team from Public Health Dentistry then carried on the celebrations by visiting students of Vishva Bharti Public School, Village Budhera, Gurugram where students of class 6th above were educated regarding the historical perspective, present scenario and future goals of World Earth Day. Special emphasis was laid on how school children can do their bit in spreading this noble cause.

 World No Tobacco Day - 2019



Center: Kalinga institute of dental sciences, Kiit university (Deemed To Be), Bhubaneswar

World No Tobacco Week-2019 was observed by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, NOCPI and IDA Temple City from Saturday, 25th of May till Friday, 31st of May, 2019 with the theme #tobacco and lung health. A week's program was initiated by the Department faculties, Post graduates and the interns. Initiative was made to educate various cohorts of population about the ill effects of tobacco on oral and systemic health. A theme-based painting and slogan writing competition was hosted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, along with an awareness program among the transport officials of KIIT University on 25th May 10am onwards. On 27th May (Monday) the security guards were educated on the effects of tobacco in the college campus. A visit was made to the “Hizra Basti”, Vani Vihar to educate the transgender on the same later that evening. On 28th May (Tuesday) an awareness program was conducted among the railway workshop employees in Mancheswar. Flash mob and Nukkad Natak was organized at Bhawani Mall from 6pm onwards on 29th May, 2019 to spread awareness among the common people. The slum dwellers were educated regarding the same on 30th May (Thursday). On World No Tobacco Day, the team of doctors visited the Police Academy to educate the police recruits about the harmful effects of tobacco and to encourage them to help improve the tobacco epidemic in India. A rally was flagged by Dr. Jugajothi Pathi, Asst. Director (Admin), KIDS and Dr. Balaji Manohar, Principal KIDS, ehich started from the College to Infocity square; shouting Anti-Tobacco slogans and distributing pamphlets among general public. “KOSISH- an oral health initiative” by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences was launched with the aim of reaching the maximum population and improving their access and knowledge towards maintaining oral hygiene. Inauguration of this program was done in the auditorium, KIDS by Dr. Balaji Manohar, Principal KIDS, Dr. Ramesh Ch. Dash, Director, KIDS, Dr. Jugajothi Pathi, Asst. Director (Admin), KIDS.

 World No Tobacco Day - 2019



Center: Government dental college and research institute, Bangalore

As part of the no tobacco campaign on May 31, faculties and students from Department of Public Health Dentistry, GDC and RI Bangalore took part in a walkathon organized by the Sri Shankara cancer research institute, Bangalore from Lalbagh west gate to the Sri Shankara Research institute Bangalore. The students from GDC and RI Bangalore have also taken part in various competitions and the awareness programmes held by the Karnataka Cancer Society in association with Department of Community Medicine, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. Dr Sruthi KS (PG S Student Dept. of Public Health Dentistry) bagged the first prize in poster painting competition. Dr Sudha Rani, Dr Pallavi and Dr Aparna(PG Students, Dept. of Public Health Dentistry) took part in Rangoli competition and appreciated for the same. An active tobacco cessation counselling programme was held by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in the GDCRI, Bangalore for tobacco users and also those who are at risk of second hand smoking. Almost 32 patients were part of the tobacco cessation counselling.

 World Oral Health Day-2019



Center: Government dental college and research institute, Bangalore

World Oral health day was celebrated on 20th March 2019 by arranging a Screening and Treatment Camp at GovernmentFirst Grade College, Channapatna in which 252 college students were screened for checking oral health status and 86 children were treated for the same and oral health education were also given to the college students.

 International Womens Day – 2019

Government Dental College and Research Institute Bengaluru in Association with IDA Bengaluru branch, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and Department of Public Health Dentistry Observed International Womens Day on March 8th, 2019 at GDCRI. Womens welfare committee was launched and Inaugurated by Chief guest Dr Pushpa Sarkar Director, Research and curriculum development RGUHS and Chairman of Women welfare committee and Dean cum Director GDCRI, Dr Girish Giraddi. Seminar and Workshop on “Situation based Unarmed Combat Training for Self Defense and Protection” was organized. Grand Master MH Abid and Major Dhrubajit Das (Ex Army officer) from the IWarrior regime gave self defense training for all the girl students and female staff of the institution which was very helpful.

 Blood and Eye Donation Camp



Center: Government dental college and research institute, Bangalore

Blood and eye donation camp was organised on 19.02.2019. There were 75 blood donors including teaching/non teaching staff and students and 35 of them pledged their eyes for donation. The program was organised by GDCRI NSS programme Officer Dr. Yashoda. R, under the guidance of Dean cum Director Dr. Girish Giraddi in association with GDCRI Alumni association and Department of Public Health Dentistry.

 A Talk on Fluorosis Mitigation



Center: Kempegowda institute of medical sciences, Bangalore

Dr. Yashoda from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore was a resource person to train Medical officers, ANM'S and ASHA workers about Fluorosis and its mitigation measures in community under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis.
